Google WiFi Is Not That Far Away

Reports have shown that Google is making a push for the Google WiFi to go up around June 2006. This WiFi network would still be just for Mountain View, CA and not for any other cities surrounding. The current plans that were approved last month would be a network of 72,000 residents. Each client being limited to 300 kbit/s, that’s still quite a bit of bandwidth and network utilization. Yes, I am sure Google has that kind of capability, but this will still be quite a service for the neighborhood kids and families. The Google WLAN will be a local portal for their adserver, AdWords, to provide a local advertising network when people search using their engine.

Google WiFi Stays at Home

Google announced this morning that they would not be sharing WiFi outside of their headquarters in Mountain View, CA. Google also reported that this is an enhancement to their network so none of their employees can ever stop working. This isn’t a push to keep them from living a life, but it’s a push for efficiency and productivity. Google has a large network and they wanted to extend it to the community of Mountain View.

Google is not only releasing this WiFi ‘GoogleNet’, but they have also been secretly buying ‘dark’ or ‘unused’ fibre-optics to help build their network even larger. Through unconfirmed sources, Google has been planning to build the nation’s largest broadband network to release to the public to compete with ISPs such as AOL, Adelphia, and Verizon. Google has brought every standard of technology up to a new level through their innovations and new ideas. It’s always exciting to see what Google will do next.
