Google Ads Now Appearing in the Chicago Sun-Times

Google Inc. is now advertising with text ads in the Chicago Sun-Times. We had all heard of recent developments of this possibility of the partnership between these two companies and now we are seeing it in action. ChicagoBusiness.com gave feedback and insight to what was happening with the business deal.

Google is best-known as an Internet search engine, of course, but nearly all of its revenue comes from ads. Through the first three quarters of 2005, the California-based company posted $4.2 billion in advertising revenue, up 96% from the year-earlier period. Most ads on Google’s site are keyed to its users’ search terms.

With this in place, Google is able to expand beyond the internet through their ad service and provide ads to newspapers now along side of many AdSense publishers’ websites. This kind of advertising will expand the Google AdWords program to something that it has never been before. Google AdWords can now be considered a major advertising market network because of the close connections it has to both written and published work; newspapers and online content.

A Google spokesman declines to comment on Google’s satisfaction with the test; the ads debuted on Dec. 9, and only 15 boxes have run so far. “This limited test is part of Google’s continuing effort to develop new ways to provide effective and useful advertising to advertisers, publishers and users,” the Google spokesman says.

Considering what has been said so far, or rather what hasn’t been said, it’s really a toss-up still to see which direction Google goes with these results and if they pursue it even further after this ‘test’ goes.

Google Donates $3 Million to Help with Online Documents

Google becomes the single largest contributor tot he new online digital library that the U.S. Library of Congress is putting on. Google donated $3 million to help fund the project of scanning in more and more documents. Google actually is not only the single largest contributor, they are the first business to contribute towards the concept of the new ‘digital library’ that was started about five months ago. The “World Digital Library” is backed by roughly $50 million in privately and publicly donated funds that will help with the process of scanning in these documents.

“Much of this will be one-of-a-kind material that you won’t be able to find anywhere else,” Billington said during a Monday interview. “Getting the material out there (online) is really important. “We have already preserved a lot of material that might have perished in other hands.”

Google Raising the Stakes for Advertising

According to FinancialExpress.com, Google has been slowly making progress with Google Base. Google Base will simply be the means and methods of hosting offline and online content to all kinds of publishers and users. Base will start out only supporting English as the language of choice, but I’m sure they will branch out to other languages shortly after launching the service. But what makes Base so special? Google Base will have the functionality to enable users to add specific attributes and custom fields to the content so that the ’searchability’ of the content are much easier to use. Base will be the bottom line for searching through content.

As a thought, Google Base may be able to integrate into Google Print in some sort of fashion so that users could have discussions on books or contribute to other articles. This is just an idea, not a rumor or fact, but a possibility that may happen in the future. But in the end, Google is helping provide a platform for people without a blog, without their own website, and for people that simply may just not be tech savvy enough to handle the ins and outs of the World Wide Web (WWW). Google is helping build the structure needed to bring content globally to everyone and distribute the content that has been needed for years.

Google Base

Google Base is in the Beta stages of its application and will hopefully be completely launched, final, soon. The fully managed accounts that will be integrated into their ‘Google Accounts’ will be nice to have everything centralized. We, as a community, look forward to the full launch of Google Base and especially look forward to the future and possibilities it brings to our generations.
