More Talk of Riya

As reading over another recently published article about Riya, a recently alpha-released photo sharing company, Google’s name came up again. RedHerring.com talks about the competitive advantage of Google purchasing Riya as a web service to be offered among the other dozens of services already being offered.

The problem is: Will the quality be up to what Google users are used to?

Riya.com’s acquisition by Google would help move Google back into the race of community against Yahoo!, whom acquired Flickr.com in March 2005. The community of Google eagerly looks forward to what the move will be and see whether or not the purchase becomes finalized. All we can do is sit back, wait, and maybe ask some more questions to find out more.

Prospects of Google Buying Riya.com

Riya LogoIt has been rumored that Google is looking to buy Riya.com, an online photo sharing site. The numbers that are being talked about is a $40 million deal between the two companies. With the purchase of this online photo community, it would put Google right back up into the running for the latest innovations and products.

Back in October…

At 7:12pm PST on Oct 28 build # 1062 was pushed to the production system. This is the alpha build for Riya. So why haven’t you got your invites? I wanted to let the team rest over the weekend so once we launch we can be there to react. Everyone is just exhausted and there are always issues once you launch. The team deserves a weekend off (after months of working most weekends). I know you all really want to use this product and all week it’s been kind of a tease…;-), but I hope you can understand my decision. The first folks to sign up (many of whom sent in their requests almost 2 months ago) will be the first to get the invites. If the system holds up we will keep letting more in.

Thank you all for your patience and support (in your blogs about us) it has truly sustained us.
