Google and Opera? Doubtful.

There has been talk around the table that Google might buy Opera, but I find that very doubtful. Google has much invested into Firefox and a lot of Firefox developers have a large say in what happens around Google. While yes, Google does partially sponsor the browse Opera acting as it’s default search engine, it does not mean that Google will invest the capital into buying the browser out. There has been much talk about this, but I don’t think it will happen. We will have yet to see what Google turns up and what will happen with gBrowser in the future.

Google Joins NASDAQ’s Top 100

Google is going to be appearing in the NASDAQ’s top 100 listing now, but not under the symbol GOOG. Google will be represented as the symbol QQQQ. They will be officially joining the list on Dec. 19th. This list is updated annually, so they wanted to include Google as part of the update.

The list, adjusted annually, is often used as a benchmark for the market’s overall performance as well as determining the companies included in an exchange-traded fund that is traded under the ticker symbol QQQQ.

In addition to Google, Nasdaq added 11 other companies to its 100 index including Nvidia Corp., the Santa Clara chipmaker; and Cadence Design Systems, a San Jose software company.

Google is officially worth over $121 billion right now. Nasdaq added 11 other companies including Nvidia Corp.

iGoogle of the Future

Google, with a big surprise to the community, had a leak of the Mac version of Google Earth. This is one of the first products being released to Mac OS X from the Google product line. There is no official release about this Mac version, but the article from AppleInsider.com helped confirm that the product works seamlessly on the OS X platform. This could be the start of a long line of products and support for the Mac platform that we could have never seen coming.

It’s about time they start developing on the Linux/Unix side of things instead of focusing purely on the Windows platform. Microsoft and Google have been battling head to head for quite some time and this will help submerge that battle quite a bit. We will post back if any official news is released about this new product.

GMail Updates With Virus Scanner and… RSS?

Anyone notice some changes in GMail recently? I certainly did. Google recently added some features to GMail such as an RSS feed agregator so you can view the latest headlines from your favorite websites. GMail also added in a virus scanner for attachments.

How does the virus scanner work?
The virus scanner activates once you view an e-mail and there are attachments to the e-mail. It will say ‘Scanning for viruses’. After it completes the scan, it keeps a cache or it remembers that it was already scanned so GMail never scans the file twice to be efficient and save time.

How do the RSS feeds work?
To add/remove RSS feeds from your account, you need to go to Settings->Web Clips and then you can toggle all your options there. You can add custom feeds or use pre-defined feeds. An example would be to add: http://weblogs.rssplanet.com/google/feed/ to that ‘Search by topic or url:’ box and then hit search, after that hitting ‘Add’ will add a new RSS feed. This can be done for just about any blog or website. It’s a nice feature to keep you updated while you’re reading your e-mails. It also gives you an option of showing it on top of your e-mail or elsewhere.

Another good job done by Google’s GMail team!

Google Stock - Taking The Road Less Travelled?

Speculations have been made and things have been said. Google stock was able to show off it’s stuff at a peak performance of $431.24, but maybe this was just a bit too high for the public to actually want. It’s likely the stock went so high people started to doubt it’s actual worth and value. But just to make matters worse, MSN has plans to take over Google’s operations as AOL’s primary search and media provider. This would leave Google in the dark and lose a lot of business from AOL search from the tens of millions of AOL users. This talk between MSN and AOL is not new, but something that was brewing and now can be confirmed that it will most likely happen. This change of media providers for AOL will directly effect the value of Google’s stock and will most likely boost MSN’s stock in the process. There is still a chance that AOL will continue it’s service with Google and make it even stronger at the expense of Microsoft, but analysts still expect there to be a change somewhere. AOL plans on making the change before the end of the year, so expect an update within 3 weeks.

Analytics - Add New Profile Hack

So you were hoping to add a new profile to account but Google disabled the link. This was a major disappointment. Apparently Google only set a HTML code block for the link though. The link still appears when you view the source of the page. So all you need to do is view the source of the page, copy the link, and add it on to current URL. To view the source, do a search for profile or add and then you will come down to a line like this:

<td class="list_control_cell" align="right"><span class="plus">+</span> <a href="admin?vid=xxx&scid=yyyy" class="normal">Add Website Profile</a>

after doing that, simply follow these steps:
