Google Did Not Buy Out
I will simply let the quote speak for itself here:
I work closely with Riya. Google has NOT bought them. But thanks everyone for all the kind words.
Stated on this blog that he works closely with the company. I still have my reserves that Google will buy them out in the future only because Google does need to pick up the slack as far as online community photo sharing goes. There are hundreds of portals out there that offer this, but I really think that Riya is what Google has their eye on. Only time will tell.
There is a bunf of promising start-ups out there - Quintura, Flock, etc, Why acquire, may be better to develop in house?
Well, for one, Quntura and Flock are not online photo sharing community portals. Flock is a browser based specifically on Firefox and Google would never take code from Mozilla like that. Google is already developing an in-house browser called gBrowser. I’m not sure of the release date.
As far as online photos sharing communities go, acquiring one would save a lot of time and effort on their part and for a fraction of a cost they could easily be back in the market and running along side of Yahoo! and other such companies. But again, it’s still just a rumor, but I do think it will happen.
